Character Creation Challenge 8 of 31, Captain Allard Takeuchi

Back to Classic Traveller to mark eight days of this. Once again, it's an Army Officer, but this one's been generated with the full book 4 procedures.

Captain Sir Allard Takeuchi                            5866AB    Age 38
5 Terms                                                                    Cr25,000
Advanced Combat Rifle-2, Admin-1, Computer-1, Demolitions-1, Grav Vehicle-2, Instruction-1, Leader-1, Medical-1, Recon-2, Tactics-1, Vacc Suit-2, VRF Gauss-1
Advanced Combat Rifle, High Passage, Middle Passage    Pension Cr4,000
Medal for Conspicous Gallantry, two Purple Hearts, 2 Combat Command Ribbons, 4 Combat Ribbons

A native of Mertactor/District 268, he is spent twenty years in the planetary defense force, initially enlisting at the age of 18 as an infantryman. His first tour was largely spent in training or garrison roles, where he was trained in personal and heavy weapons, and in the use of vacuum gear, and reached the rank of Corporal. He re-enlisted, and was selected for Officer Candidate School, where he was trained for mechanized operations, emergency medical support, and small unit tactics. As a junior officer, he served in Internal security, training, and counter insurgency operations. Selected for retention, he served more in Counter insurgency operations, raids, and more internal security, and made First Lieutenant while earning his first Combat Command Ribbon and a MCG. Finding it to his continued liking, he followed his unit into a training cycle, before getting picked up as a staff officer in another offensive operation, where he was promoted to Captain. After that, he was assigned to the Staff College, followed by another COIN tour, where he was leading a company. That experience found him still relevant to the Army, and at 16 years, ready for more. The next term, following a garrison snooze-fest, he was picked up for commando training, then assignment at the Infantry School as a Recon instructor. Seeking to possibly transfer over to the Special Operations Brigade, he was found unable to continue as an officer, and medically retired. Still on Mertactor, he's got a couple of passages he could use, but is looking to hire on as a security consultant for those headed into District 268, or out into the Trojan Reach.

Character Creation Challenge 7 of 31, Salvatore Gerard

Returning to Mongoose Traveller, I rolled this guy up and went through the corebook careers for a best fit. It came up that Sal here ended up as a good fit for a Free Trader, and almost qualified for a pension! I pressed my luck, and went in a couple extra terms as well.

Salvatore Gerard    Merchant (Free Trader)5, Citizen(Colonist)2
Age 42                                                AA3885    Cr 26,000
Art-0, Broker-0, Carouse-0, Comms-0, Drive-0, Engineer (Jump Drives)-1, Jack of all Trades-2, Mechanic-1, Persuade-2, Pilot(Starship)-1, Recon-0,  Steward-0, Pilot (Starship)-1, Vacc Suit-2
5 Ship Shares for a Free Trader Enemy, Ally

Born to a working class family on Regina/Regina, at the age of 18 he signed on to a free trader operating up and down the Spinward Main. Four years of hard work, and he established himself on the route and the ship. He gained impressive skills in persuasion, engineering, and space operations, as well as working to make sure he wouldn't tire out as quickly. Signing on for another term, he met Evan Georgesen, an Imperial Trade attaché at Ruie, one of his ship's regular ports, and continued his work as a free trader, picking up some blade training and working on persuading customers his trader would be the best for their needs. Keeping going, he ended up getting in a violent argument with Evan, leading to a bitter and lasting enmity. He kept up his status and training, learning a bit about everything, improving as a spaceman, and basic mechanical skills, seeing extensive duty as the engineer on a Beowulf-class free trader. His next period of time started out well, but trading into the Extents means wars can start over minor provocations. His ship was almost lost, but he managed to hold them together long enough to get back to Imperial Space. Taking his possessions, he signed up as a colonist on Forboldn/Regina for a while. While his first few years on the farm went well, and he became the local handyman, and caught up on some of his missing education, it just didn't sit well with him after a while. A major storm wiped out the village he was living at but an old Friend, Maj Bolens, was in the area, and helped him get back on his feet, and back to Regina. He's looking for work, and has a fair bit of credit built up. Maybe there's a crew ready for him again.

Character Creation Challenge, 6 of 31, Sublieutenant Varinia Janacek

Today, I went for Book 5 for my character of the day. And this time, it wasn't so good!

Varinia Flavia Janacek Navy Sublieutenant             7A68A9    Age 26
1 Term+College                                                        Cr 5000
Bribery-1, Gun Combat-1, Jack of All Trades-1, Liasion-1, Navigation-1
High Passage

A native of Wonstar/Five Sisters, she decided that life on a backwater barely capable of local spaceflight wasn't for her. Finding the Wonstar Down College offered a Navy Officer's Training Corps sealed the deal for her, and she saw it as a ticket off world, thanks to the Imperial Navy base. She passed her studies, and was barely commissioned upon leaving college. She was denied by the Imperial Navy, but picked up by the Five Sisters Duchy Navy as a line officer. Her initial training focused on working with other organizations, and how to work in zero g, helpful considering the low tech nature of many of the worlds in the Subsector. Her first assignment was back to school; this time to learn the arts of Naval Intelligence, followed by a shore posting as a staff intelligence officer ashore at Karin Base supporting the blockade of Candory and Andor, where she learned the fine art of investigating how unscrupulous traders would run the blockade. Finally, she got shipboard duty, assigned to the one of the subsector fleet's aging battleships as an Astrogation Officer, while it lead a task force on a raid on a pirate haven in District 268 that was interfering with commerce across the Bowman Arm, and possibly attacking the Scout Base at Walston/District 268. As a result of this operation, she was awarded the Medal for Conspicuous Gallantry. Despite her excellent performance, she was not in the social set expected of officers in the Five Sisters Navy, and released from service recently at Iderati/Five Sisters.

In today's round-up,

Per my habits, rolls are below the fold.

Character Creation Challenge 5 of 31, Lord Theodore McAuley Brand

Taking a break from my norms, I went with semi-random character creation this time, to give me a
character with a place in my solo play. Lord Brand is MM1 Brand's older brother, and thus, heir to the Marquisate of Saagii. I assigned him a Social Standing of 12, for the family's noble status, and then randomly rolled the rest. Here's his stat block:

Lord Theodore McAuley Brand    Army (Cavalry 1), Noble (Administrator 4)
887A9C Admin-3, Advocate 1, Animals-0, Athletics-0, Carouse-1, Comms-1, Computer-0, Drive-0, Diplomat-2, Deception-2, Flyer(Gav)-1, Gun Combat(Slug Pistol)-1, Heavy Weapons-0, Investigate-1, Leadership-1, Melee(Blade)-1, Persuade-1
Cr 160,000, Foil, 5 Shares for a Yacht, 3 General Ship Shares

He attended the Kelvin Imperial University, taking a degree in Public Administration, and the Officer's Training Corps. Upon graduation, he was commissioned into the Saagii Hussars, where he spent four years commanding initially a platoon of Intrepid Gav Tanks, then the Squadron EW platoon, before serving on the staff of the squadron. He was released form his commission to the Army Reserve in 1104, where he began work in the Imperial Ministry of Commerce's Banking Section. Quickly advancing, his keen eye for business lead him into a conflict with Baroness Jada Seidel of Bellin, one of the other nobles in the region, but he was promoted. Another excellent period, and despite making an enemy of Sir Torston Larson of Larson Mercantile, he stayed with the MoC. He took some time to consider starting a family, but finding his work suffered, he threw himself back into it for a few more years. He recently took a sabbatical from his position, despite being recently promoted to manager, and obtained access to the family yacht. His intentions are unknown at this time.

Character Creation Challenge 4 of 31, Zlatan Coughlan, MD

Rolling Old School
Returning to Classic Traveller, I present to you former Chief Steward Zlatan Coughlan, MD.

Chief Steward Zlatan Coughlan, MD        5696D9 Age 34
College, Medical School, 3 Terms            Cr27500
Admin-2, Broker-1, Grav-Vehicle-1, Jack of All Trades-1, Liason-2, Medic-3, Steward-2
Two High Passages

A native of Thengin/Sabine (Deneb 0518), he attended a local university and medical school before getting hired on to Tukera as a junior medic. His initial training consisted of taking care of passengers aboard one of Tukera's Long Liners, as well as interfacing with planetary customs authorites to grant free pratique and ensuring the ship was following customs regulations. His other early term included was also involved in standard, boring runs through Rhylanor and Sabine Subectors, where he studied to pass the exam for ship's medic. Finding shipboard life suited him, he had a chance to be loaned to Akerut for a year as a junior medic, but studying passenger services again. He then found himself as the medic aboard a charter, running some noble families to Vlad for a year and back. Uneventfully back to liner duty, he passed his exam for Chief Purser. He then was assigned to an exploratory mission, into the Extents. Hitting his stride, he was up for another hitch despite feeling some of the effects of age. An unprofitable time in Speculative Trade was followed by time at a surface station, and a year at the Rhylanor Tukera College of Business. As a final tour, he managed to get an assignment to a speculative venture, where he managed to make some money out of it. Thoroughly tired of the Tukera life, he's now ready to start on his own.

Character Creation Challenge 3 of 31, Baroness Natalia Tomer Conti

Another from GURPS Traveller, meet Baroness Natalia Tomer Conti, Imperial Diplomatic Corps. She's part of the Imperial Advisory Team on Hofud/Sword Worlds (SM 1524) in 1120, working to try and avoid a bloody war. A member of an aristocratic family on Vilis/Vilis (SM 1119), her professional background was in various diplomatic posts around the Spinward Marches since 1103, when she graduated from the University of Rhylanor Graduate School of Interstellar Affairs. Since then, she's been assigned to various various posts in the Darrian Confederation, Sword Worlds, Federation of Arden, and various independent systems in the DMZ. Now, she's found herself in the Border Worlds, trying to keep the Hofud People's Army from starting another war. As herself, she's an attractive, tall woman with short, dark hair.

Character Creation Challenge 2 of 31, Ivar Bjornson Sundelin

My first GURPS Traveller Character in the challenge, Professor Ivar Bjornson Sundelin, PhD. He's a Sword Worlder Philologist, who speaks most human languages in the Spinward Marches, and several dead ones as well. A native of Anduril/Sword Worlds, he had a fairly standard education until his youthful talent for languages was discovered. At that point, he attended the University of Graahavne for extensive instruction in modern languages and many of their immediate predecessors. Shortly after this, he served four undistinguished years in the Anduril System Defense Squadron as a communications officer and interpreter, adding Zhodani and Darrian to his existing linguistic catalog of Sagamal, Anglic, Modern Vilani, Icelandic, English, and Old High Vilani. He returned to the University as a graduate student, studying the literatures and development of his academic languages until age 30, when he was recruited to the Linguistics faculty of the Greven Henrik II Universitet, as a Reader in Modern languages. He continued his work a GH-II-U until age 45, when he lost out the Chair. The next year, he was recruited by the Imperial University of Mora, initially as a Visiting Professor. For the past decade, he has been working in the Imperium as an authority in Sword Worlds literature and languages. He recently retired, and may be encountered in almost any campaign in the Imperium. If he is used as a non-player character, he is an older man who is almost indestructible no matter what goes on, while running around looking for obscure documents. It is even possible he is on Terra, reading of ancient authors like Tolkien, Howard, Anderson, de Camp, Dusany, and Zelazny. Physically, he's a shorter man, having a narrow face with bright blue eyes, and close-cropped white hair.
